In the spring of 2026, mass environmental destruction will be criminalized in the EU. One of Sweden’s leading law firms, Lindahl, together with Ecocide Law Alliance, opens its doors for an inspiring seminar on the effects of mass environmental destruction on business.

Speakers and panelists:

  • Leif Johansson, chair of AB Aphrae, former CEO of AB Volvo, former chair of Ericsson and Astra Zeneca, member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA), opens the seminar with a business perspective on environmental issues.
  • Nina Macpherson, chair of the board of the Ecocide Law Alliance foundation, follows up with a presentation of the work and vision of the foundation.
  • Lena Gipperth, professor at the law department at the University of Gothenburg, presents her thoughts on the potential of future ecocide legislation, based on her research in environmental law.
  • Jacob Lund, head of sustainability and communication and a member of the management team of industrial nexus Investor.
  • David Ekelund, founder and CEO of Icebug.
  • Göran Eriksson, CEO of Göteborgs Hamn AB – the largest port in the Nordics and the Swedish business world’s gateway to the world

Governments vote for recognition of ecocide at world’s largest conservation congress

At its World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi (9-15 October), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the world’s largest and most diverse environmental network, comprising more than 1,400 member organisations including states, government agencies, civil society groups and Indigenous Peoples’ organisations, has voted to adopt Motion 061, “Recognising the crime of ecocide to protect nature.”

Representatives from all Sweden’s non-government parties have submitted private member’s bills calling for ecocide to become an international crime.
